It’s All Downhill Now!

James Ketchell > Blog > It’s All Downhill Now!

Hey guys,

Well I’m now over halfway around Great Britain, and If I stay on schedule I’ll be back in Portsmouth where I set off, before I know it! The last five days have been absolutely amazing cycling in North West Scotland! I’d throughly recommend cycling up here if you get the chance. A lot of the terrain reminded me of cycling across certain parts of America. Quite rugged with mountain tops disappearing into the clouds, and tress hundreds of years old lining the road.

I am now cycling on my own as my friend Sarah who came up to cycle from Glasgow to John O Groats has now gone home. She rode like a champion and put up with me talking about myself! So a sterling effort from her all round.

Yesterday I met three guys from London who were cycling on a route called the north west 500, it’s a route starting and finishing in Inverness taking in the coast line all the way around Scotland. They were strong cyclists and all round great guys. I managed to tag onto them today as they headed south towards Inverness. We all got absolutely soaked in what has probably been one of the wettest days so far, but throughly enjoyable!

Tomorrow morning I’ll be leaving Inverness and heading around the coast for Aberdeen. The forecast is looking good! The following day will see me ride to Edinburgh and then half a day later I’ll be back in England! Time is really starting to fly by now.

I need to say a big thank you to everyone who has kindly donated to Over The Wall so far. I’m sure lots of you reading this will make a little donation so I’ll thank you in advance.

You can donate here: https://campaign.justgiving.com/charity/overthewall/roundbritainrow as well as texting OTWR16 £5 to 70070

I’ll soon be announcing my final day itinerary and date which will be open for anyone wanting to join me. The distance will be around 60 miles so very manageable for most people.

I’m often asked if I get a sore bum or get any aches or pains in general. Thankfully I can report that my backside is all good and I’m feeling fit and strong. The only thing that has given me a little grief is my bad ankle that I broke many years ago. I’ve been taking anti inflammatory medication so hopefully that will help.

After the ride I’ll be making a video on my bike and kit that I’m using as I’m getting lots of questions which is great.

Out for now guys
