I’ve recently been eluding to my next project, which I think most people who know me are familiar with by now. However, it’s now time to share all with you.
On Saturday 25th June I will be setting off from St Katharine’s Dock to row solo, nonstop and unsupported around Great Britain. A distance of 2,000 miles and a feat that has not yet been achieved by anyone. Fingers crossed ah!
Circumnavigating Great Britain alone in a rowing boat presents many challenges, mainly the tides which I will be trying to use to my advantage, and the winds which can be very erratic. I will drop an anchor when I need to rest as I cannot touch land at any point during the circumnavigation. I will be fully self supported on the boat, no different to any ocean crossing, I will be eating the same dehydrated food and making water in exactly the same way.
The boat is a Rannoch design and holds the record for the fastest solo Atlantic crossing, set by Charlie Pitcher. To see some recent rowing footage you can click here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jZvJQzCLgL0
I will be rowing close to land and in a lot of cases I will be visible from the shore. I should have fairly good connectivity via 3G & 4G for a lot of the time, this will give me the ability to share my entire journey via social media and interact with followers. My tracking page will be going live over the next week.
Now I’m sure you’re wondering why I am doing this? The project is in support of Over The Wall, who offer camps for seriously ill children as well as camps for the siblings of the seriously ill camps for entire families. More information can be found here http://www.otw.org.uk and the most important link can be found here http://campaign.justgiving.com/charity/overthewall/roundbritainrow
Please do spare whatever you can for this wonderful charity. I’ll certainly be working for it!
You can follow Over The Wall on Twitter @OVERTHEWALLcamp and use the hashtag #RoundBritainRow
