Most people have heard about the power of positive thinking and it may sound like a cliché to some. However, several scientific studies confirm the power of a positive mindset is proven to improving your mood, confidence and lowering your chances of developing conditions such as depression, and other stress-related problems. Studies have also shown that people who maintain a positive mindset outlive their negative counterparts.
Having a positive mindset entails many things, and it is difficult to define, but it generally includes positive thoughts, optimism, and positive self-talk. Here are just a few tips that I can share with you all.
Your morning routine is important because it sets the tone for the whole day. You should have a morning routine that boosts your attitude. For example, if you wake up late in the morning, you are likely to panic and feel that nothing good is going to happen for the rest of the day. Starting your day with pessimistic views and negative emotions will affect all other events you will experience. The right thing to do is to start your day with positive affirmations and focus on just two or three things that you’d really like to achieve that day.
Negative experiences are inevitable, and you are likely to face some challenges on a daily basis. However, no matter the type of challenge you face, you should look for a silver-lining, even if it looks unimportant. For example, if you are facing a major challenge in your life, be it unemployment or the loss of a loved one, think of the good times, and appreciate that there is a time for everything. Remember tough times don’t last, tough people do. When you are stuck in a traffic jam, you may think that you are going to remain on the same spot forever, but with a little patience things start moving again.
Most of the time life brings us small pleasures and victories, and with the right mindset, you can seize the small opportunities to make yourself happy..
Exercise is known to boost your mood by making your brain produce feel good hormones that include endorphins and serotonin. When undergoing tough times, you will naturally feel unmotivated but try to keep moving and exercising. Maintaining a positive mindset is easier when your brain is producing the right hormones and exercise will help create them.
You can also feel your brain with positivity by reading books with positive messages, listening to music that uplift your spirit, and watching motivational and self-help podcasts.
The importance of surrounding yourself with positive friends is that you will hear positive stories, positive outlooks and receive positive affirmations. Finding a positive company can be a little bit tricky, but you should strive to eliminate negativity before it causes damage. You can achieve this by influencing others in a positive way, and they in turn will affect you positively.
In case you meet rejection, take it positively because every rejection opens up a window to new possibilities. For example, if your job application is declined, you can think either you are not good enough, or consider the rejection to be a push towards better opportunities. I can honestly say I have had thousands of rejections emails, and recently a large broadcaster turned me down for an opportunity.
Accepting reality and the problems we face is crucial in maintaining a positive mindset because we cannot solve our problems when we refuse to see the reality. Sometimes the truth hearts, but rejecting reality also makes us our own enemy and prevents us from moving forward.
Sometimes we try to deal with negative feelings and thoughts by pushing them at the back of our minds, but the more we try to avoid the feelings the worse we feel. Coming up with a plan on how we are going to deal with our problems is a sure way of stopping ourselves from wallowing.
